Speaker: Michaël Empsen, MSc
Michaël Empsen is a researcher at the PXL University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Belgium), within the Centre of Educational Innovation. He has about 2 years of experience in the field of 360° videos in education and is involved in multiple national (e.g. VR-Leerfabriek, ID-360) and international projects (e.g. SEPA360) on this subject. From the academic year 2021 – 2022 he will also be the promoter of his own national project, to investigate design principles for 360° videos that focus on procedural skills. Michaël holds a bachelor’s degree as teacher for primary education and a master’s degree of Science in Educational Studies. His main professional interests lie in the area of Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL).
Speaker: Michael S. Feurstein, MSc
Michael S. Feurstein is a Teaching & Research Associate at the Institute for Information Systems & New Media at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Vienna). He has a software development background with experience in the development and integration of lecture recording and streaming services for the WU Vienna. Michael teaches “Foundations in ICT” and “Business Information Systems” and has been awarded the eTeaching Award in 2017 and was nominated for the Ars Docendi in 2020. Between 2017 and 2020 Michael supported the Digital Teaching Services at the WU with video-based integration projects. Currently, Michael is pursuing his PhD in the area of video-based learning and is part of the SEPA360 Erasmus+ project focusing on 360°-video in higher education.
Abstract:
360°-video offers new potential to video-based learning in higher education. However, the challenge is to get to know the technology in order to successfully identify and design relevant 360°-video scenarios with educators. There are alot of components involved, starting with the special 360°-camera, the editing software, the viewing devices and the opportunity to watch 360°-videos through an immersive virtual reality (VR) headset. This event will cover the foundations in order to get started with 360°-video technology in an educational context. The hands-on workshop will introduce you to relevant details concerning 360°-video technology and how to design 360°-video based learning experiences in Vivista, an open source 360°-Video editor designed for higher education. Three partners from the interdisciplinary European Erasmus+ funded research project “Supporting Educators’ Pedagogical Activities with 360°-Video” (SEPA360) will present the project, the technology and pedagogical designs behind it and showcase the 360° video editor.
The event will be streamed live via Facebook and Youtube on Wednesday 1st September 09:00 am – 11:00 am (CEST).
